Welcome To My Website
I HOPE YOU ENJOY LEARNING ABOUT MY WORK & INTERESTS
After spending more than 25 years as a writer specializing in grant writing, business and technical writing, I had the opportunity to take a life-changing three-month trip to London in 2015. You can read more about that trip in My Great London Adventure. It was my own version of a grown-up gap year, and when I returned home, I started thinking about the joy I’ve always found in travel, and in learning about history and culture. I have eclectic tastes in all three areas, but most often these interests have entwined with my lifelong quest to bring more of the history and culture of the British Isles into my life. It’s a quest that extends back to my childhood – I’m pretty sure I was the only 7-year old in my neighborhood who watched every episode of the Six Wives of Henry VIII on Masterpiece Theatre!
In addition to numerous trips to Great Britain, I’ve also spent more than 30 years traveling across America and Canada seeking out places with links to the British Isles. I’ve read myriad books and travel memoirs, and I’ve watched so many hours of British movies and television since my first encounter with Masterpiece Theatre that even the strongest English accents rarely throw me anymore - although Scottish accents are sometimes a bit tricky!
Today I use the rich body of knowledge I’ve amassed over the years to help other Anglophiles discover the many rewarding encounters they can have with England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland right here in America – no passport required. My writing and my blog, Anglophile in America, share my love of the British Isles, and provide ideas for getting in touch with your inner Brit, even if you never have the chance to visit the countries of the U.K. I also write about how to experience other world cultures here in the U.S.
I have extensive public speaking experience, including three months of experience giving architectural and historical tours at Benjamin Franklin House in London, England. If you’re looking for someone to talk at a meeting or event, please check out Speaking Engagements for a list of topics I enjoy presenting on.
