500 Years of Treasures from Oxford University @ Folger Shakespeare Library

The Folger Shakespeare Library’s fabulous First Folio exhibit may be drawing to a close, but it’s followed by an equally fascinating exhibit called 500 Years of Treasures from Oxford.  To celebrate the 500th anniversary the library of Corpus Christi College at Oxford University, 50 rare manuscripts and books from the 10th through 17th century will be on display in the United States for the first time.  Items in the exhibit include a collection of 13th century Anglo-Jewish manuscripts, a 10th century copy of the Rule of St. Benedict, an illuminated copy of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and works by Sir Isaac Newton and Galileo.  The exhibit is curated by Peter Kidd, a specialist in medieval manuscripts, who recently published a book on the medieval and Renaissance manuscripts of The Queen’s College, Oxford.
