Victoria on PBS

Now that Downton Abbey has finished its run, what’s next for Anglophiles and British history buffs?  Victoria on PBS!  On January 15, PBS begins airing the eight-part series Victoria, starring Jenna Coleman.  Coleman is best known to American audiences for her role as Clara on Doctor Who (2012 to 2015).

Victoria covers the first few years of the young queen’s reign, as she adjusts to her new role, learns to handle the political intrigue that swirl around her, and meets and marries Prince Albert.  The ITV series aired in Great Britain in the fall of 2016.  It was a big hit with British audiences, and a second series has already been commissioned.  Victoria on PBS is sure to generate strong interest among U.S. audiences as well.  In fact, it’s widely viewed as a likely successor to Downton Abbey in the hearts of American Anglophiles.  You can find more information about the series on the Masterpiece website.  Check out Queen Victoria’s Empire on PBS for background information and resources on this venerable English monarch.

Do you belong to an organization that’s interested in sponsoring a program in conjunction with this series?  My presentation on The Life and Times of Queen Victoria makes an excellent companion piece that’s sure to engage fans of Victoria, Downton Abbey, the Victorian era, and English history and culture.
